I am on dial up 56k modem, and the radio webcasts sound pretty good, with only an occasion pause, as long as you do not try to surf the web while listening to the broadcasts.

If you are setting up these Chinese radio stations up for your computer novice parents, there are a couple of things you can do to make things simpler for them.

Hint - Keep these files in a folder on your desktop for easy access. I did this for my parents, and even though they barely know how to turn a computer on, they now listen to these stations all the time simply by double clicking the desktop icons. Click to see a screen shot of my computer desktop

Hint -If you have dial-up internet access, set up your computer so that it will automatically go online when you double click on these file. This way your parents can skip the step of launching a separate program to get online.

If you are setting up these Chinese newspaper websites for your computer novice parents, there are a couple of things you can do to make things simpler for them.

Hint - Put a shortcut to the websites in a folder on the desktop for easy access. I did this for my parents, because clicking on a desktop icon is much simpler than typing in the full URL address or launching the browser, and then searching through all the bookmarked favorites. To create a shortcut drag the website URL from the address bar, and drop it onto the desktop.

Hint -If you have dial-up internet access, set up your computer so that it will automatically go online when you double click on the website shortcuts. This way your parents can skip the step of launching a separate program to get online.

Hint - If you want to display the names of the newspaper using Chinese characters, but your computer is not set up to do this, grab the images off this page, and use them as custom icons. Click to see a screen shot of my computer desktop
